SOO and NATHALYN
"Weirdest Friendship
ever"
Soo W. Lee, 20, and freshman in Rutgers University has got to be the most sarcastic and
most insensitive person ever. I don't know how we got along--maybe it's because I was
tolerant of his ways or maybe it was because I saw something deeper than what he showed on
the outside. He was in my History class and gym class sophomore year. At that time, he was
going out with one of my friends. I also called him a lot just to talk. When the
relationship went sour, I tried to be there to comfort him. It was also during that year
that I began to like him as well. But it was nothing serious. I just blew it off as
something more of an "infatuation" of some sort.
Nevertheless, junior year, I didn't really talk to him much. A couple of "hi"
in the hallways and calls to him sometimes
that was about it. But the feeling still
lingered on about him. He knew about my feelings for him but we both knew he could never
offer any more than friendship. Actually, I never really considered about having something
more.
Senior year came and Soo and I talked more. We both changed our schedule at the same
time and ended up in the same Biology class. He sat next to me in the back of the class
and we became lab partners. It was fun although he was one lazy partner. It was kind of
annoying with me doing most of the work but I guess I just got used to him. At this time,
feelings for him grew stronger. Still, he was jumping from girl to girl and I knew that
there was really nothing. So, I moved on. I decided to ask him to the prom however. Yeah,
go figure, it took him a couple of months to answer me. Of course, when he decided to
answer me, he gave me dictionary words that meant a "yes" and I actually had to
pull out a dictionary to check out the answer
pain in the butt but I had to admit, it
was fun. I was very happy when he said yes, actually. Even though I knew it was only as
friends, I knew it'd be fun. After we signed up to go to the prom together, I met my
current boyfriend and little by little the feelings went away for Soo. I told him things
about my current boyfriend and he was always there to give an advice (stupid advice but
it's ok
it was funny anyway!). The prom was great. It was sweet of him that he paid
for most of my limousine fee. The night ended with complaints of why the night ended so
fast. Well, prom didn't spark anything up, of course, but I knew that our friendship had
gone into a deeper level. We ended senior year with only happy memories, from going to the
beach for a trip to him giving me rides going grocery shopping and to school (of course,
I'm sure he remembers how he forgot to pick me up one morning!). These memories would
definitely last us a lifetime. I still remember the last thing he said to me before I left
over the phone. He said that I had become one of his bestfriends in the past couple of
years that we've known each other and I'm glad. The only regret I have is that we weren't
able to hang out before I left. However, for the 3-4 years I've known Soo, I can say we
really had a weird friendship
very weird. I bet that Soo would agree as well.
